When Julie and I set up Urban Mutts, it wasn’t just because we were experienced at looking after dogs, it was because we both had a particular philosophy about the way in which we would care for them. Having both been brought up around dogs, and recognising the enormous influence of their presence throughout our lives, we have allowed them to continue to play a role in the way that we raise our family.
We realise that our dogs – meaning not just those that we own ourselves but the ones whose care is entrusted to us each day – make an important contribution to the makeup of our home. By knowing their individual identities and characteristics and, through that, providing each of them with the time and attention that best addresses their needs, we not only ensure that we nurture the very best qualities in each of them individually, we protect and cultivate the harmonious and happy environment that is the backdrop of our family’s life.
We believe that at least once a day a dog should be allowed to be just a dog. To us, that means getting them out of the concrete jungle and into nature, and letting them put all of their animal instincts to full use. The combination of mental and physical exercise, as well as the encouragement of pack discipline, not only develops their minds, depletes their energy and promotes stress-free urban lives, it ensures consistency of good behavior when later in the day they’re required to go home and accommodate their owners’ lifestyles.
The happy dog and the happy owner is what we’re all about. Welcome to the Urban Mutts experience.
